What kind of building (brick, stud etc...), how many stories, where the work is required (interior / exterior) and what kind of roof is on the building (tile, tin, is it an extension or part of the original)....

Purchase the items to be installed before hand, making sure that consultation with an electrician as to whether or not the item purchased is installable without any extra work required. Make sure all information regarding the install is communicated beforehand and finally don't set about doing a job as cheaply as possible as this is only going to finish in either a second rate job or further work being required down the track.

The customer usually, however it's important to give all the information and let people know that if money is tight, you can make an interest free payment plan that ensures quality work and promotes satisfaction with the end result. Or let them know of any spotters fees you are willing to pay out.

Either by the item unit if only one (of whatever is requested) or two is required, or by the hour unless the scope of works is over ten hours or a quotation is requested (written quotes must be for over 8 hours of work).

fault finding & rectification is one that a lot of people mention as it's not just a case of either replacing a part or removing the problem but recognising what is the cause and what may present later down the track and concentrating on preventing future problems that may not be obvious.
