In 2016, I embarked on a musical journey that would soon take a backseat to my academic pursuits. Enrolling at the Sydney DJ School, I eagerly delved into the world of turntables, mixers, and beats. The excitement of learning the art of DJing was infectious, but the demands of my Electrical Engineering degree proved relentless. As a result, my dreams of becoming a DJ were temporarily put on hold.  Fast forward to 2022, a year that marked my triumphant return to the world of music. Armed with the knowledge and skills I acquired at the Sydney DJ School, I dusted off my equipment and returned behind the decks. The rhythms and melodies I once learned flooded back as if they had patiently awaited my return.  This resurgence of passion was undeniable. DJing was no longer just a hobby; it had become a fervent calling. I dedicated countless hours to refining my craft, mastering the subtle art of seamlessly blending tracks and reading the crowd's energy to curate the perfect musical experience.  With each passing gig, my confidence grew. I found myself not only performing at birthday parties of all ages but also taking the stage at weddings and corporate events. The diverse range of venues and audiences pushed me to adapt and expand my repertoire. From creating the perfect ambience for a couple's special day to keeping a corporate crowd on their feet, I relished the challenge and the opportunity to share my love for music.  I now work as a full-time Electrical Engineer, but I can still live my dream as DJ, which I keep on the side. My job is to satisfy the needs of the client by playing their favourite tunes but also being adaptable at the event by reading the crowd and seeing what the vibes are like.

What do you like most about your job?

What I love about what I do is the technical study and practice behind DJing. Coming from a technical work background makes me appreciate this. In addition to this, building rapport and developing my relationship with the host is an enjoyment for me. At the end of the day, my role is to help make your dream event a reality with the right music. Furthermore, collaborating with the host is helping me to fuel my passion to perform for crowds playing a variety of musical genres.

From past experiences, I’m equipped to handle various situations and adapt on the spot to play music that would suit the mood and preferences of any audience.   Music Selection: The DJ music selection plays such an important role in determining the success of the party. I’m capable of playing a variety of musical genres that helps caters to the diverse audience in age groups and music tastes. Moreover, I can seamlessly transition between different blends and eras of music to keep the dance floor popping off and everyone feeling engaged.   Equipment and Setup: Although music is important for the night, the quality of DJ’s equipment is also vital to ensure the audience enjoys the experience. I use high quality sound systems, lighting, and other technical equipment to ensure sound quality and have a visually appealing atmosphere. Having a presentable and neat setup can also enhance the party’s overall ambiance.  Reviews and Recommendations: I have a strong reputation for my DJ skills where I’ve earned outstanding reviews and word-of-mouth recommendation as I ensure reliability, professionalism, and dedication of delivering a terrific performance that meets client’s expectations. How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

I typically charge based on the type of event. Every event is unique in its way and differs by scope and requirements. However, I'm flexible to discuss with my client on alternative priced structures.  Usually, when the client is happy to proceed with my DJ service, I'd require a deposit then the remaining amount can be paid upon cash or bank transfer.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

In 2016, I embarked on a transformative journey at the Sydney DJ School, guided by the renowned DJ Andrew Duffield. During this immersive four-week program, I delved deep into the art of DJing, gaining valuable insights and hands-on experience that laid the foundation for my career. Under the tutelage of Andrew Duffield, I immersed myself in a comprehensive curriculum that covered essential aspects of the craft. I've encompassed mastering equipment, honing beat-matching skills, dissecting song structures, exploring advanced mixing techniques, and meticulously preparing for live sets. Learning the theoretical knowledge and having some practice with a coach gave me a solid foundational base, allowing me to exceed and become competent in this area. Besides doing the actual study behind DJing, I wanted to implement my knowledge and skills by performing in front of a crowd through several events. I believe theoretical can only get an individual so far, whereas practical is where you fully develop. By being a DJ in different situations, whether it is someone's 18th birthday, a company hosting their Christmas party, or a couple is about to get married. Going through various obstacles and experiences allowed me to become adaptable, confident and competent as a DJ. Music is everything at the event, and setting the right atmosphere is a job I take very seriously. The end goal is to have the audience go wild on the dancefloor and ensure the client is satisfied by the night's end. Hence, this is why I am the right DJ for your next event because DJ Wasabi will bring the greatest vibes no matter how big or small the event is.
