As a licensed plumber in Victoria, I must have public liability insurance and of course, I do. I provide a 6 year guarantee on my workmanship and all new material or appliances are covered by the manufacturers warranty.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I was in a field of work which was quite different from plumbing, but when carrying out my studies for that area, key principles for that field were taught with plumbing analogies. Those analogies ended up creating a fascination with plumbing principles and years later, an opportunity became available to carry out a plumbing apprenticeship with a person, who would be best described as the plumbing equivalent to the great chef, Marco Pierre White. So, given such a rare opportunity, I decided to take on the plumbing apprenticeship and now the rest is history.

I was working on a combined property once and the neighboring elderly gent came up to investigate the work I was doing. After a short conversation on the work I was carrying out , the topic of conversation changed to the elderly gents work history and low and behold, the elderly gent ended up being one of my deceased fathers best friends from way back. That elderly gent also ended up being a real estate agent for whom I ended up doing plumbing work for because he could see from the work that I was doing, that I possessed the same attention to detail and skill as my father once did.

Are you a licensed plumber ?  Does the person who comes to quote the job, actually come out and do the job or are sub contractors employed to carry out the work? Does my particular job require a certificate of compliance?

Why is something plumbing related doing something it shouldn't be doing - I try to explain to customers the cause and effect of plumbing related issues and situations. What plumbing brands are best suited to the customers situation - I always give a brand recommendation with reference to what I see out in the field. Why do different plumbers have different standards - I try to explain the difference between plumbers and why a plumbing license does not guarantee the same quality.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

My business motto is punctual, honest and reliable and I do my up most to stay true to those words. If i nominate a time, I will strive to arrive on time. If I see something that does not warrant immediate attention, I will inform you and if I say I will be there, I will turn up or in rare circumstances, give you a courtesy call to arrange another time.

Distinction Plumbing is a plumbing business that is not driven for major profit, it is driven to help people because it cares. Customer satisfaction is the most important key element for my business and that is why as the owner of the business, I am the one who comes out and does the work.

The typical things I need to know before I provide a quote is the small detail. Type, material, preferred brands, preferred methods, colour and proposed additions down the track, especially with renewing gas services.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Keep the area where the plumbing service is required clutter free. Remove all of the items under the sink if you know that is where the work will be carried out. Always ensure clear access to external drains. Move childrens toys or out door furniture to keep a clear working space. Know where your gas and water service meters are as well as your property sewer boundary trap or inspection shaft, especially if they are buried under shrubs or weeds.

My pricing is competitive because I provide a personalised service where the business owner carries out the plumbing work. I try to keep my business running costs low so that I can maintain a competitive hourly rate.

How do you normally charge for your service?

My preferred method of charging is by the hour for most plumbing jobs. The reason for this is simply because I feel that it is fair to the customer and to myself. The main exception to this is machine clearing blockages, i have a fixed price on this service due to high machine maintenance costs.

Over my plumbing years, I have been involved with installing new plumbing for new house builds, carried out plumbing alterations for house extensions and carried out rental property maintenance for real estate agents, property owners and body corporates.
